The DIESELswitch
Automatically switching over from HFO to MDO and vice versa
The three available DIESELswitch configurations will be discussed:
- The DIESELswitch is designed to automatically control the changeover from HFO to MDO and vice versa, thus ensuring that the fuel injection equipment is protected from any damages caused by rapid changes in temperature.
- The DIESELswitch with a built-in homogeniser that can be used to blend the fuel oil to a given sulphur content based of the bunker specification.
- The DIESELswitch with an exhaust sensor in the chimney that can also make adjustments based on the present sulphur content in the exhaust gas.
By blending the fuel oil, the ship only needs to carry two types of fuel instead of three.

Torben Wiik is a trained marine engineer and has been working for MAN Diesel since 1992.
Initially he worked in the spare parts department for MAN Diesel and was responsible for the German ship owners.
Torben was then put in charge of spare parts and technical service in South-East Asia. For the last 3 years he has been responsible for special projects in South-East Asia.
