FOR OPTIMUM COMBUSTION AT REDUCED LOAD
- Clean engine operation at reduced load
- Improved combustion quality
- Easy retrofit installation
- Reduced exhaust emissions
- Reduced operational costs
- Patent pending
At today’s fuel prices more and more ships operate on reduced speed in order to reduce the fuel consumption. Diesel engines however are not designed to run at part load over a long period. The reduced volume of fuel injected results in lower injection pressures, bad atomisation of the fuel and the larger fuel drops combust incomplete resulting in soot formation, wear of turbo chargers and piston crowns and increased particulate emissions.
The LEMAG Slashpol R is the solution to this problem. Instead of installing special fuel injectors that limit the engine power at the upper end of the range the missing volume of fuel is filled up with water which is completely emulsified into the fuel. This water in fuel emulsion allows to operate the engine at part load, even on longer periods, without harmful effects to the engine but at the same time ensures full power is available if required. In this case the system will automatically reduce the water content to get the required fuel amount available.
As a positive side effect the engine will run even cleaner then before, with reduced emissions of NOx and smoke whilst the fuel consumption is not negatively affected.
The fully automatic integrated control system also monitors the temperatures and viscosity of the emulsion to ensure that no damages to the engine are caused by a sudden change of the water-fuel ratio.
During the development of the LEMAG Slashpol R one of the main focuses was on the possibility to retrofit it into existing ships. The result is a plug-in system that can easily be installed onboard without interfering the normal ship’s schedule and can be commissioned by the crew onboard without the attendance of external technicians.
